The sheriff shall charge a fee of $150, which shall be prepaid and non-refundable for the posting of and conducting of the sheriff sale.
Foreclosure notices are posted by the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office in the main lobby of the courthouse on Oxford Avenue, on the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office Website, and in the municipality where the property is located.
If there are questions regarding the property, you will need to contact the attorney listed on the lower left-hand corner of the notice. It is the responsibility of the bidder to check for back taxes, liens, judgments, etc. that are attached to the property.
A sheriff’s deputy holds the sale, being a fair and impartial party. The sale is in the form of an auction. The highest bidder is awarded the property.
The successful bidder must post 10% of the winning bid at the time of the sale. It is to be in the form of cash, money order, or cashier’s check, per the official Notice of Sale. Personal checks are not accepted. PLEASE NOTE: As of October 1, 2013, the Sheriff’s Office will strictly enforce the terms of sale, including requiring the 10% deposit immediately upon the close of the sale. Persons will no longer be allowed to return later in the day with the necessary cash or check.
Successful bidders on a foreclosure property will find additional information on the "Foreclosure Sales Basic Information for Successful Bidders" handout, from the Eau Claire County Clerk of Courts (linked here: Winning bid info)
